Abandoned Lands (May 22, 2011)

Poking around on the internet I came accross a new music video from Coma Cinema. It’s interesting to say the least. I’m not quite sure how I feel about it. However,  I think it is shot and edited really well. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Also, news to me, they have a [new] album out called Abandoned Lands which you can download for free here. It’s only 5 tracks long but I definitely enjoyed it. It’s pretty cool that they just put their music up for free like that.

Work Drugs: Blue Steel

Written by Matthew Smith. Filed under Music, News. Tagged , . No comments.

New music and video from WorkDrugs. I can dig how they accidentally turn the music on and kinda fall in love with the sound. I think it goes quite well with the footage of Mannequin. Good Job guys.

The debut single “Blue Steel” from Work Drugs new album “Aurora Lies” available on Bandcamp and exclusive home-made CD on November 7, 2011.

This song was originally written by us for the movie Mannequin, but they flatly rejected it as being a little too smooth sounding. You be the judge.
*Note: all video clips copyright of the amazing movie Mannequin*

Sleep ∞ Over

I heard Sleep ∞ Over last night on my cousin’s Sirius radio and I checked them out. Sleep ∞ Over is Stefanie Franciotti, from Austin Texas. The first song I heard was Casual Diamond,  I really like Romantic Streams. Listen to it below.  And check out her website here. I don’t know if it’s intentional, but the super basic html design of the site goes along perfectly with her minimal sound. “Forever”, her debut album will be out tomorrow,  September 27. Pick it up here. I think I’ll be listening to more of this. Romantic Streams by Sleep ∞ Over

Death Grips: Exmilitary.

I stumbled across this on last.fm today.  I find the music interesting.. so I looked further into them and it’s some pretty rough stuff. Not something I’d play before I went out for the night but it’s worth a hear. Continue reading for the video of the first track off their album. It starts off with a Charles Manson sample..

Com Truise – Brokendate

Written by Matthew Smith. Filed under Design, Music, Videos. Tagged . No comments.

New track & music video from synthesizer sensation, Com Truise.  Plus a little back story as to how this music video came about. Great tunes. Awesome work all around. enjoy.

Com Truise – “Brokendate” from Ghostly International on Vimeo.

Music as evocative as the stuff made by Com Truise—master of the transporting synth odyssey—necessitates videos that are nothing short of cinematic. Hence the fully blown-out treatment for “Brokendate,” which rolls everything from eighties cop noir to Blade Runner retro-futurism to slo-mo Hype Williams nods into one five-minute world unto itself.

Says previous collaborator and director Will Joines of 10 lb Pictures: “While I was cutting the ‘Fairlight’ video earlier in the year I kept thinking that it was fun, but if I ever had the opportunity to actually film something for one of Com Truise’s songs then I could really go all out and create this whole world that would be specifically tailored to his music.” Mission accomplished.

About Com Truise

When talking about the music of Com Truise (one of the many pseudonyms of New Jersey designer/musician Seth Haley), the nostalgia bit inevitably comes up, so let’s get that out of the way. Yes, his songs tap classic sci-fi and proto-electro in a way that is distinctly early eighties in scope. But they’re also remarkably weird—stutter-step proggy and intoxicatingly psychedelic, like those classic touchstones got drunk on lava lamp juice inside a pinball machine. After his well-received Cyanide Sisters EP, a grip of remixes for artists like Twin Shadow, Neon Indian, and, uh, Daft Punk, and a few floating MP3s, Truise’s first LP, Galactic Melt, will finally enter brainspaces this summer.

Decompositions – Vol I. Chapter 1. Rites of Initiation

Written by Matthew Steiner. Filed under Music. Tagged . No comments.

“Rites of Initiation documents the ill-lit, inward-leading, forever-winding pathways that eventually take hold, on a search for the authentic in an increasingly artificial world. When the boundaries between thinking and knowing, dreaming and waking, living and dying all begin to blur, a terrifyingly primal vision begins to bleed through the fragile veil of consensus perception. To surrender to it, embracing the other side is our “rite of passage”. We’ve crafted these songs in an attempt to sing that Transition into being.”

Behold, after seven long years, FINALLY new circle takes the square. To sum the ep up…just wow. Somehow the screaming has gotten more intense. The overall sound is just beyond what I imagined. Way of ever-branching paths, a nine minute “epic”, is the standout for me. The drums at the beginning and I was sold. There’s really not a whole lot that can be said to do it justice, just listen at ctts.bandcamp.com

Haven’t been on the net in a few days. Check out this new track from Odd Future. The Dinosaur Dick reference was sweet.

THE CHARIOT PERTH 2011.

Written by Matthew Steiner. Filed under Music, Videos. Tagged , . 1 Comment.

The chariot has easily become my favorite band over the past couple months.  Long live is, as an album, amazing. They’ve been around long enough now that they know what works for them, and what doesn’t.  I just think between their live show and how tight they are as a band, they get overlooked often.  I love that they’re free to do what they want as a band. and really I just think their music rules.

The Chariot shut down HQ with a bowl of pears… but that wasn’t enough to silence them… Pete’s house was open for Mom, Dad & The Kids EP Launch & before we could reason with Dudeman it was settled. This goes down as one of the best weekends of my life, thanks to everyone who shared it with us.

Here’s a remix of the footage (a lot unseen) put to ‘The Heavens’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu_kiDcZ_-g

see more of The Chariot @ http://www.facebook.com/thechariot

A special thanks to Jack & Sally for putting all of this on & also to Taylor Armstrong & everyone at Hopeful Productions – http://www.hopefulproductions.com.au for making the house show what it was.

Philadelphia ensemble, Work Drugs has released a new song, ‘Ice Wharf’.

It’s got the same Work Drugs feel you might be familiar with, the  video was made by Karl Shoes. They’ve also compiled all the Rad Racer remixes from the contest they held a little while back. The winner was Summer Heart.
