Movie Review : Grown Ups

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

For starters, this movie has a lot of my favorite people in it. Chris Rock was the one that tipped the boat and I had to see it. I went into it thinking it was going to be a cheezy daddy day care style film.  It was definitely cheesy, but not to that extent. The movie was really funny, and had me laughing almost the whole time. I really wish I saw more of Chris Rock but over-all it was good, I’d give it a 7.5 out of 10.  One of the best parts is when Rob Schneider’s daughters arrive.  Grown ups is still in theaters, so go check it out if your looking for something light and fun.

Beach House

Friday, July 30th, 2010

My friend Samantha H. Has me hooked on Beach House.  After telling her about a record a friend and I were trying to play, I described the what the record looked like and she says ” Oh Beach House!” and continued to let me borrow a copy of their CD : Teen Dream. The best way I can describe Beach House is.. Vampire Weekend + Grizzly Bear = Beach House.  It’s a very chill,  sometimes catchy record.  Great music to drive to or overall chill out to. I give the Beach House : Teen Dream album an 8 out of 10. Pick it up here

here is them performing my favorite song by them “Take Care”

Through The Eyes of The Dead

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Through The Eyes of The Dead was one of the most influential bands I’ve ever listened to. I remember hearing them for the first time and they sounded just like what I always wanted to hear but just never heard yet. They used many horror movie quotes before their songs. It was such a new thing to me. They had a theme to each quote that they used. It always seemed like the music matched the emotion in the quote perfectly.

I first heard of TTEOD from my friend Baby Chris. He showed me TTEOD, Despised Icon and Psyupus all at the same time. After Chris showed TTEOD to me, I got to go to a live show here in Philly. It was Acacia strain, Job for a Cowboy , Animosity, and TTEOD.  I think Acacia was headlining. But I was super eager for TTEOD at the time. Man that was a blast. After their show, the guitarist threw his pic into the crowd and I happend to get it. I’ll never forget it.

The First album I heard from the was the Scars of Ages EP The second album  I heard from TTEOD was the Knife Trade Split as many came to know it as Click here to check it After that Album they released Blood Lust which in my opinion was a turning point in Death Metal. I felt like after Blood Lust many bands were merely imitating TTEOD. Regardless, The album, Blood Lust has come to be one of my favorite albums.

What sparked my interest was that I was watching a movie called American Psycho for the first time. And I noticed a quote from the movie that they used in their song called Erratic Perception. to listen, click here—> 09 Erratic Perception

I then remembered how many great tracks this band has. Click the following to check em out. I’m uploading the most popular ones.

02 Autumn Tint of Gold-my personal favorite from the Scars of Ages EP

02 Two Inches From A Main Artery- Crowd Favorite from Blood Lust

01 Beneath Dying Skies- One of the best songs I feel they’ve ever produced from Scars of Ages EP

Between The Gardens That Bathe-Third Personal Favorite from Scars of ages EP

This is the original singer for TTEOD, he and the drummer left the band. So if you try to listen to any of their new music and wonder why it sounds different is because it’s a whole new band now. I feel like the old vocals made the mand that much more unique.

The Most Known Unknown

Monday, April 26th, 2010

If you like metal at all then you probably  have heard of The Acacia Strain. Once and a while bands will put out DVDs of their live shows along with some mischief. My friend Matt Steiner told me about The Acacia Strain DVD “The Most Known Unknown” and I had to check it out.

The DVD consists of 2 live sets and a behind the scenes commentary. The one live set is a large venue and the second is at a much smaller venue. Both have their pluses and minuses. Their live show is what makes The Acacia Strain so popular, so it was awesome to see them express themselves so openly.

Overall I’d give The Most Known Unknown an 8 out of 10. The dvd is totally worth picking up if you love metal and or just wanna see a wild show.

Listen to them here

Windows 7

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Oh man. The more I learn about this operating system, the more I love it. One of my favorite features is the ability to navigate between web pages from the task bar.

It almost feels like a mac layout for pc, the task bar is kind of like a dock.

Another small but pretty champ feature is you can control itunes from the task bar. Pause and skip tracks and get song info too.

I’ve only been using it a few days and I’m excited to see more.

Winds of Plague…

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I was looking for new bands one day bored at a mall when I came across this band. I’m pretty sure it might have even been with matt. I didn’t really know who they were and thought the cover art looks like something out of world of warcraft. I thought it was good and had potential but I never bought it. I came across them again looking up some videos..and that’s when I seen the impaler video. After that I had to look them up on itunes to listen to them more. I ended buying both their cds as this was only about 6 weeks ago. I actually like The Great Stone War more now which was released 5/11/2009. A video interview of the band said lord of the rings was an influence to them so that was interesting. The Great Stone is def worth taking a peek at if your into metal and haven’t heard of this band
