Orchid Footwear Timeline

Written by Matt Loughead. Filed under BMX, Features, News. Tagged , , , , , , , . 2 Comments.

Orchid Footwear began producing shoes in 2003 around the same time I bought my first BMX bike. They began with a single shoe which blossomed into one hundred different shoes and colorways over the last seven years. Orchid to me represents a solid and reliable entity that is all about the rider. Being that they’re also located about forty-five minutes from me provides a sense of locality and tangibility. I feel that their growth and development in the BMX world provides an analogy to my own growth and change in riding.

I bought my first pair of Orchids from Loweriders in Downingtown, PA in the summer before my freshman year of high school in 2004. I was drawn to the Disciples after having seen Corey’s part in Wide Awake Nightmare. In my younger years I remember looking up to riders like Van Homan and Corey Martinez and I wanted to wear the same shoes they had. Since then I’ve owned about a dozen pairs of Orchids and now I wouldn’t wear any other shoe.

This timeline documents the various Orchids I’ve worn over the past six years and how my riding has developed into what it is today. I’ve also provided a list of each type of shoe I’ve owned and ridden in.

The Most Known Unknown

Written by Matthew Smith. Filed under BMX, Features, Music. Tagged , , , , , , . 2 Comments.

If you like metal at all then you probably  have heard of The Acacia Strain. Once and a while bands will put out DVDs of their live shows along with some mischief. My friend Matt Steiner told me about The Acacia Strain DVD “The Most Known Unknown” and I had to check it out.

The DVD consists of 2 live sets and a behind the scenes commentary. The one live set is a large venue and the second is at a much smaller venue. Both have their pluses and minuses. Their live show is what makes The Acacia Strain so popular, so it was awesome to see them express themselves so openly.

Overall I’d give The Most Known Unknown an 8 out of 10. The dvd is totally worth picking up if you love metal and or just wanna see a wild show.

Here is one of the many new stickers coming soon.

If you ever met Matt Shepps you’d know he loved to ride like the rest of us. I figured this is the least I could do. The stickers will be white ink on clear sticker paper.

Seth Kimbrough is the man

Seth Kimbrough has been one of my favorite riders. Him and Butcher were the only characters I played in Matt Hoffmans pro bmx! The last clip is totally nuts! His nose wheelie game is on point!

Overall great day of riding yesterday with some of the crew and ending with some brews and videos at MC Lovin’s crib. Good times were had for sure!

Windows 7

Oh man. The more I learn about this operating system, the more I love it. One of my favorite features is the ability to navigate between web pages from the task bar.

It almost feels like a mac layout for pc, the task bar is kind of like a dock.

Another small but pretty champ feature is you can control itunes from the task bar. Pause and skip tracks and get song info too.

I’ve only been using it a few days and I’m excited to see more.

Winds of Plague…

I was looking for new bands one day bored at a mall when I came across this band. I’m pretty sure it might have even been with matt. I didn’t really know who they were and thought the cover art looks like something out of world of warcraft. I thought it was good and had potential but I never bought it. I came across them again looking up some videos..and that’s when I seen the impaler video. After that I had to look them up on itunes to listen to them more. I ended buying both their cds as this was only about 6 weeks ago. I actually like The Great Stone War more now which was released 5/11/2009. A video interview of the band said lord of the rings was an influence to them so that was interesting. The Great Stone is def worth taking a peek at if your into metal and haven’t heard of this band
